Peru is a country in western South America. Its economic activities include mining, manufacturing, agriculture and fishing. The Peruvian population is is multi-ethnic, including Amerindians, Europeans, Africans and Asians. The main language is Spanish, although many Peruvians speak other native languages. The mixture of cultural traditions has resulted in a beautiful diversity of art, cuisine, literature, and music.
Coffee production came to Peru in the 1700s. Life isn’t easy for most coffee farmers, mainly because of the unpredictable weather conditions. There are over 110,000 farmers with an average farm size of only 2-3 acres. Peru is quickly building a global reputation, and they are one of the largest producers of organic coffee in the world!
Our 100% Peruvian coffee is an organic, swiss water decaf. Our coffee is decaffeinated using the Swiss water method, which eliminates the coffee’s caffeine using water rather than chemicals. This organic method protects all of us, including the farmers, from the harmful effects of harsh chemicals. This origin has juicy flavors of yellow muscat, sparkly butterscotch with a smooth finish. All of our Peruvian beans are direct trade, so the money goes directly to the farmers – which in turn is helping build and support local communities and villages in Peru. A portion of these proceeds go to the orphaned river children of the Peruvian Amazon.
Thank you for helping bring change to the world, one bean at a time!
What is single origin coffee?
Single origin coffee is coffee grown within a single geographic origin. This means the beans come from a single farm, or from a single country. Single origins allow the roaster to cultivate unique flavors that reflect the origin of the beans. Single origins are a great way to experience the flavors of places you might never have the opportunity to visit!
